July 9, 2026 - Still Nocturnal
It is 2 in the morning on July 9th. I'm trying to find a good training rhythm and it's been a challenge because I want to work out twice a day and hit at least once a day, but I'm also in a place where I'm consistently staying up way past my bedtime. I'm nocturnal.
The last couple of days I've been going over to Lawrence Central, which is where I went to high school, and hitting against the wall there that they have set up on the court. Yesterday, I did eight 250-meter runs—one lap around the track with about a minute or a minute and a half of rest in between—and I hit for an hour. The second session yesterday was a thousand jump ropes and ten reps of shuffling back and forth for two minutes with a one-minute rest in between. I did the jump ropes second, and I watched a replay of the Karolina Muchova versus Naomi Osaka match.
Today I got up and got right to the treadmill to do my two miles. I was actually up to like 5 a.m. last night writing about "Celebrate the Blue, Honor the Gold" and getting us some more punchy text on the website because we're gonna start pushing on social media soon.
I think I've worked out two times a day for like four days in a row now, and today is the first time in a few days where I just worked out once. I had plans to get back to Lawrence Central and get on the wall, but we also had a team meeting for APTL stuff tonight so my afternoon was compressed. I still have a few more files that I'm taking care of for my old job, and I had a mountain of laundry to do. When you are working out twice a day, you realize just how much more quickly you go through your workout clothes.
The dream is stil alive. I just got to find a way to get more meals prepped ahead of time and to pack my cooler for the hot days and the workouts.
I have about eight miles so far this week and my resting heart rate is down to about 53 or 54, which feels really good. My voice is getting stronger. It just takes a while to get all the cobwebs out, but the race is definitely on. I feel super excited. I'm pretty tired right now, but there will be more working out tomorrow. I'm definitely gonna get back on the wall and get some serves up.
Thanks for following, and I'll keep you updated from the APTL.
